When I think of the Zodiac wheel and the series of twelve astrological archetypes, I think of it like a story of creation. First, Aries brings us the sense of self, or ego - the sense that we are an individual, that we are. Consciousness becoming aware of itself. Then from there, the next part of the story is that the Self has needs, basic physical needs such as shelter and food. And comfort of the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. This is where Taurus comes in.
Represented by the Bull, Taurus season runs from April 19th to May 19th. Taurus represents the Earth element, which is very focused on stability, safety, and sensuality (those things that we can experience with the five senses). Taurus is also the Fixed Earth sign, so I describe it as the “stereotypically earthiest” of the three Earth signs, preferring routine, comfort, and predictability. Ruled by Venus — planet of love, beauty, and value, Taurus is the appropriate energy for ruling the second house in astrology of wealth and material possessions. This energy is extremely hardworking and can handle a lot of responsibility, stress, and work.
In Astrology, Taurus is the sacred keeper of the physical world and embodiment. Where an air sign may have a difficult time feeling grounded in their body, earth signs like Taurus are very embodied, meaning that they exist in a state that is naturally more rooted in their bodies and in the physical, 3D reality rather than in the spiritual or mental realms. With Taurus season being at the height of springtime, this archetype represents fertility and the body of Mother Earth herself.

Taurus energy is soft, yet sturdy. Overindulgence becomes a coping mechanism. Greed, vanity, or addictive behaviors can surface when comfort becomes the priority over growth. Yes, basic physical needs and creature comforts being met is something to aspire to, but out of balance, Taurus energy makes “comfort is a killer” into a literal statement.
